Documentation

Spent a hour or so working on the "Case Development" document. This outlines the roles everyone has in the team and therefore who is responsible for completing which tasks, etc. I then uploaded it to our SharePoint Server.

Portal Stage 1

After about a week I worked up a rough portal based on the initial drawings, ideas we had, this is a snap of what it looked like at Stage 1.

Dummy Site

I have spent the last few night's working on a dummy site to show Daniel what we are thinking of doing...it is currently located here:

http://www.uow.edu.au/~cs321ds7/index.html

It has a number of different area's in it, but the most interesting page is:

http://www.uow.edu.au/~cs321ds7/app/point.html

Have a look (this will one day go, but it's there now). Anyway, it's a starting point for our project.

Portal

Guys

Head over to:

http://gena/sites/ds07 [make sure you use IE - or at least
IETab within Firefox]

I apologize for the speed, hopefully my exchange will get upgraded to
ADSL2 in the following month or so.

If you need explanations on its uses - Skype me.

I have pre-set several work-items for everyone, although you will only
be able to see these through Visual Studio, once you're connected. In
order to do that though - you'll have to install Team Foundation
Explorer - its an extension for VS.

The coupling of the portal and Visual Studio, will allow us to structure
our approach to producing our documentation as well as a successful
product in the end :)

Regards,

Roman

Server Setup

After two days of installation and configuration {sometimes I wish
everything was like a Mac} - our team foundation server is now ready to
operate. It was a pain to discover that ISA 2004 doesn't like being on
the one machine with Team Foundation Server.

Due to my security concerns - I will require Shawn and Andrew to VPN to
it, prior to utilizing it.

The following features that I can think of right now will be covered:

- SCV
- Resource Scheduling
- Work Item Tracking
- Collaboration portal

Acronis is in charge of our backup -> nightly.

Friday Meeting

It has been decided that meeting once per week isn't enough to get this project out the door well dressed. So we have come up with a solution -> two meetings.

One being on Wednesday, pre-lecture ; one Friday at 13:30.

    Test Pages for G'Spot

    Well

I haven't had any luck with doing any test pages for our G'Spot portal...Roman is working hard at setting up our server, while I tried to use Daniel's script to make the html site for our "Unix Group" called cs321ds7, and found it wasn't there. Have emailed Daniel so it will be sorted soon Or he will point me to where it is...but I don't think its there.

We had a huge group meeting on Wednesday, in the order of 2-3 hours...covered heaps. Roman had done a lot of research and is outlining were we are heading. Also had a quick look at Microsoft's Visual Studio 2005, looks nice...but I have been mainly developing in Java using Netbeans or Fortran, yes, strange mix, but you get that with engineering applications. We also decided to add another weekly meeting to our schedule, at this stage it will be on Fridays at 1330, but this could /will change.

    Project Plan and RUP

    Well

Last year we all did CSCI222 together and a major part of that subject was using RUP in a small team for a small software development project. Guess what! We are going to use the RUP templates and processes for our CSCI321 Project.

Andrew got the templates that we had last year and made the required changes to reflect current group members, our Project Name DS-07, and other miscellaneous changes. Using these, and the four phases of RUP I have put together a very rough, first pass plan using Micro$oft Project. It outlines the documents we need to work on for the rest of the session. It also leads into the construction phase which will start in session2.

Below is a report generated from this plan...depending on how it formats in blogger, I might remove it later, plus, as stated, its a rough first pass plan. WELL, GUESS WHAT...the format sucked so I have removed it for now

    First Portal Mockup

After one of our meetings we decided to work on a mock up of a initial site...this will change over time as we make decisions on the location and separation of both the Uni Project Site, Tracker Portal and our SharePoint Developers site.

Here is a rough picture of what we were thinking for a first pass.
